“Simplicity in art is not an objective, but by approaching the truth of materials one comes to simplicity” (Brancusi)
My work springs from a desire to collect, arrange and shape materials in an almost ritual manner. I am drawn to a material through its form, texture, colour or scent and through the way it relates to the surrounding space.
As these qualities work on my senses, an idea emerges for a specific gesture. Typically this is an elementary, repeated movement that generates an unpredictable structure and shape. It is an attempt to grasp the truth of things by letting materials speak for themselves.
